I love London. I love how much there is to see for free.
I love the buzz of the city, the varied choices of places to eat, the old buildings mixed in with the new.
We started off with trafalgar square and the National Portrait Gallery. They had a fab contemporary photography exhibition on. There were so many inspiring photos and so much inspiration to be found.
We then headed towards Liberty. Believe it or not, I have never been there, but it was a treat to be sure. I spent a happy time stroking the fabric in the haberdashery section and realising I couldn't afford any of it!
In the afternoon we took a trip to Lambeth to see the First World War galleries at the Imperial war museum. There was just so much to see, so much to take in and a lot of emotion to contend with. It is well worth a visit.
I always forget that walking around London is a bit of a workout! I think I got more exercise in one weekend than I have all term.
The next day we headed up to Islington and explored the beautiful shops in that area. Sitting in a cafe munching on croissant and coffee, I decided that this wasn't a bad way to do life. Just a shame the work has to come in somewhere!
Getting away for a weekend was so refreshing. London town, you are pretty lovely.
When I am next in the city I am keen to meet up with a few of you who live there! I would love your inside knowledge about where to eat, visit and explore and of course, a catch up face to face wouldn't go amiss!

Looks like a good weekend. You must have been at the Imperial War Museum the day before us. We were there all day Sunday. All very thought provoking.
You're right, there is so much to see. You can't cram it all into one visit! You definitely need to come back again.
There is nowhere to compare to London...there's something new to see every time you visit.
I love visiting London too. My family all hate it! I went to a great exhibition at the NPG when I was there with a friend in September. Always so much to experience. Glad you had a wonderful time.
PS I've never been to liberty either.
Come back and have lunch with me! You missed Mel and me ~ we were at the Science Museum and then I met the boys at St Martin-in-the-Field at Trafalgar Square for a concert.
Were they filming in Liberty when you were there? Apparently C4 has a program about the store, not that I've seen it.
Oooh London how lovely. I'd recommend going to Kensington Gardens for a walk and tea at The Orangery. I'd also check out what's on at Kensington Palace. Foyles Bookshop in Charing Cross Road is wonderful and also the lovely antiquarian bookshops too. Walk across the bridge from Charing Cross station and wander along the South Bank to Tate Modern or get a boat to Greenwich which is spectacular.

I adore going into London, I just smile the whole time. I can recommend afternoon tea at Fortnums ... But then in my book, Fortnums is the best store in London. Ok it doesn't have Libertys haberdashery bit, but oh I love it
I was at the Imperial War Museum the weekend before you :). I'd never been either and I found it unexpectedly interesting. Glad you both had time to play hookey!
Seeing your photos make me long to be back in London, Abi. One of the things Carrie and I really loved in London was meeting our blog friends at Maggie Jones's for lunch. It's in the Kensington area and such a beautiful place (and yummy food!). I'm glad that that you and the boy had such a lovely time in the city! xo
It's been decades since I was in London, but I loved it both times I was there. What a great way to spend the weekend!
