And she was stuck...

Hi All.
Sorry, just a flying visit, but da tah da dah! I have won a prize! For work and progress in year 12 which makes me very very happy! But.. that was not what I am here to talk about. Basically, as a prize winner you get £12 to spend on any book you want off amazon, well...I want some kind of craft book as I figure I will get the most use out of it. I found this one which looks fab...And, bonus, it has been reduced to £5! So, I need to find another book as well. I need your help! Can anyone suggest a good cheap ish craft book, either on scrapbooking, knitting or creative photography? Also any christians out there, who know of a really good daily bible, with a verse or chapter dedicated to each day! Thanks! any comments would be greatly appreciated!
Hope you've all had a great weekend! xxxxxxx

Good for you! Well deserved :-) And great choice of book to start with!

Lots of people I know highly recommend Max Lucado's books, 'Grace for the Moment', which have a verse and thought for each day. I've got the first volume and have spells of time where I'll look at it each day, spells where I dip into it now and then, and spells where I kind of forget I have it and it sits on the shelf!! It is good, encouraging and thoughtful, and worth considering.

If you want something that's more to take you through the Bible itself over a year then look out for Cover to Cover. The version I've got leads you through chronologically. It's helped me to put the psalms into perspective in particular, to read them alongside the events and circumstances in which they were written. There tends to be quite a lot to read each day though, it requires quite a time commitment! (Or spread each day's reading over a couple of days and make it last for 2 or 3 years instead...)

Finally, there's a Spurgeon book called Morning and Evening. (I think it's available for different translations of the Bible - we have the NIV version.) For each day of the year there's a verse for the morning and another for the evening, with a page of reflective notes on that verse's theme too.

I'd be happy to recommend any of these - though I have no idea how much they might cost you, sorry! xx

Okay, so Mel has taken care of your spiritual needs...
Now to the secular and crafty!

I have a couple of good books on Scrapbooking Techniques - "The Complete Guide to Scrapbooking" by Sara Beaman is very good. It has a comprehensive, technique-by-technique approach to scrapping.

"The Encyclopedia of Scrapbooking Techniques" by Karen McIvor and Sarah Mason has a similar approach; however I really like its sections on colour theory, composition and layouts - there are lots of sketches, with projects using the sketches, also stuff about using text etc. It's a really useful book.

On a different note, how about "Stray Sock Sewing" by Daniel? (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stray-Sock-Sewing-One-Kind/dp/0715330160/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1273440280&sr=1-1)
It's just such fun, though there aren't any monkeys in this one, though the second book in the set has monkeys -(http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stray-Sock-Sewing-Too-Super-Cute/dp/160061907X/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1273440280&sr=1-3)

Have fun spending your prize, and well done for earning it!
