The details of our home

I often record the conversations and the stories of our experience of living in our first house. I realised though that I never think to record the little details. The day to day stuff. What our home looks like.

Yesterday I took my camera and wandered around our little house. In many ways it screams student but I also think it has a lot of girly touches too.

These are the details that caught my eye....

My belongings littering the bed after coming back from a lecture. Backpack, phone, text book and computer.

Miss Maggie Rabbit who I made by hand, who still needs to be blogged about, and sits on my desk.

Housemates curled up on the sofa tapping away at work.

Bright spring daffodils on the table.

The obligatory cleaning rota tacked to the pin board in the kitchen.

Pretty cake tins by the window.

The sausage full of old plastic bags which never seem to get used again.

The cupboard full of pretty girly mugs. You can tell we are tea drinkers can't you!

The fridge magnets of love and happiness. Its always good to receive affirmation when you go to grab the milk in the morning!

and slippers just stepped out of in the middle of the lounge.

One day I will love to look back at these details that made our first little house a home.

What details make up your home?

I do love your fridge magnets....I have magnets on my fridge as well....but mine mainly bring back memories of places visited....but one or two are meant to make us smile.

This is so, so well worth doing! I wish I had a photo of the ugly blue sofa we had in our student house. The landlord couldn't wait to show us how he had painted the chimney breast to match..he loved it, we thought it was awful, but we didn't care. We loved that house :)

You have prettier mugs and tins than we ever had though!

So much prettier than my student house which had 20 year old swirly carpets and not a laptop in sight!

Abi, I've had this page open in my reader all day because there is so much I want to say to you ... I love this post and am another who is regretting not having any photos from where I lived when I first left home. Please do make a traditional scrapbook for these photos; you'll be able to add to it as the years go by (and get your friends to write in it).

I lived in a dorm all four years at college, so there weren't any where near as many details, but like the others I have hardly any photos from my college days. This is a great project, and I'll put it on my list!

This is such a brilliant thing to do Abi and yes in a few years you will love to look back on this time in your life and have so much detail to remind you. I have lots of pictures of detail in the house but I haven't done anything with them. Maybe it's time to start another project!

What a lot of very lovely things you have, Abi - indeed, you will be glad to have these reminders in years to come. Beautiful collection.

I love this Abi! Such gorgeous pictures capturing the everyday little moments of uni life with your housemates :) I lived in a very basic bedsit last year when I was teaching, but I did take some pictures of the small things and looking at them now, I am transported back to that time and place immediately. Thank you for sharing! Hope to talk really soon xxx

Those little details reflect a happy charming space - thanks for sharing. And do tell us about Miss Maggie.

What a great post and peek into your home. I think plastic bags multiply in those bag holders and you're right they never seem to get used.
